DoorKing Welding & Fabrication: The Irving Owner’s Guide

We stock and install welded DoorKing gate components in Irving, including operator mounting plates, hinge repair, frame corner reinforcement, and custom brackets for 6000-series and 9000-series swing operators. Most welding and fabrication jobs on DoorKing systems in the Irving area run between $350 and $1,400 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked weld on an existing bracket or fabricating a new mounting assembly from scratch. Same-day service is available for weld failures that have left a gate inoperable or unsecured. The way most Irving homeowners discover this problem: the gate starts sagging at the hinge side, the operator mount flexes when the gate moves, or a weld pops with a sound like a gunshot and the gate suddenly swings free.

What we find on DoorKing gates that have been in Irving service for seven to ten years is rarely a motor failure. It’s a metal fatigue problem. The operator arm pushes thousands of cycles a year against a bracket that was never designed for Texas wind load on a six-foot solid panel. Over time the weld at the mounting plate cracks, the gate drops a quarter inch, and the operator starts fighting geometry instead of moving the gate.

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

Most of the welding and fabrication we do on DoorKing equipment in Irving involves two product families: the 6000-series slide gate operators and the 9000-series swing gate operators. On the 6000-series, the common failure is the chain idler bracket or the floor-mount base where the motor bolts down. On the 9000-series, we see the most fabrication work at the operator mounting pedestal and the gate hinge-to-frame connection. The DoorKing 6100, 9150, and 9300 are the models we weld on most often around the Las Colinas corridor and older Irving neighborhoods.

Before we quote a welding job, we identify the exact mounting configuration. Take a photo of the operator data plate and the failed bracket, and measure the gate panel thickness at the hinge point. DoorKing uses different bracket geometry depending on whether the gate is a tube-frame or solid panel, and welding a bracket meant for one onto the other creates a stress riser that fails within a year. For OEM parts, DoorKing sells pre-fabricated mount kits, but those kits assume a standard install. When the gate post has shifted or the concrete base is out of square, a quality aftermarket bracket custom-fabricated to the actual measurements does the job an OEM kit cannot. We stock both. If the original bracket is intact but cracked at a single weld, a qualified weld repair is usually the lower-cost fix and holds fine when the root cause, usually a shifted post or a loose hinge, is addressed in the same visit.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • Gate sag at the latch side. The gate drifts down at the free end, and you can see daylight under it where there wasn’t any before. The hinge welds are stretching or cracking, and the panel is levering against them on every cycle.
  • Operator mount flex under load. When the gate reaches mid-travel, the operator base plate visibly moves or the motor housing torques sideways. The mounting weld has failed and the operator is now pushing against air at the failure point.
  • Sudden bang followed by free-swinging gate. A weld let go completely. The gate is now unsecured. This is the one that gets the emergency call, and it’s the right call.
  • Grinding at the hinge when the gate moves. Before a weld fully separates, the micro-cracks let the two surfaces move independently, which makes a grinding or popping sound you can hear from the house.
  • Operator arm bracket cracks visible at the bolt holes. These are stress concentrations where the arm bolts to the bracket. Once a crack starts at a bolt hole, it propagates quickly through the bracket under load.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most DoorKing welding and fabrication work in Irving runs between $350 and $1,400 installed. A single weld repair on an existing bracket typically lands at $350 to $550. Fabricating a new mounting plate or pedestal base runs $700 to $1,100. A full custom hinge replacement with new pins and reinforcement gussets on a heavy solid-panel swing gate runs $1,200 to $1,400. The price includes the site visit, the fabrication or weld work, removal of the failed bracket, and reinstallation of the operator with correct geometry. Before any work starts, you get a written price that itemizes parts, labor, and any concrete work if the mounting base needs to be re-anchored. What we quote is what you pay. And every DoorKing welding job we complete in Irving falls under Vance Gate Repair’s 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld or fabricated part fails within a year, we make it right at no charge. Under Haven Standard Clause 4, you also receive a photo log showing the before condition, the weld during fabrication, and the finished install with the operator cycling.

A homeowner can safely check the obvious signs: look for cracked paint radiating from bracket welds, check whether the gate post has shifted, and look for any gap where the bracket meets the gate frame. What a homeowner should not do is weld a load-bearing bracket as a first welding project. A gate panel puts hundreds of pounds of dynamic load on a small weld area, and a weld that looks fine but lacks penetration will fail when someone is standing in the gate path. Welding on a powered gate also requires disconnecting the operator and, on a DoorKing unit, locking out the power, because a limit-switch malfunction can activate the motor mid-repair. If the gate is sagging, unsecured, or the operator mount is flexing, call us at (817) 510-4183 and a technician will bring the welding equipment and the bracket stock to handle it same-day if the failure is urgent.
