• Keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad’s still sending signal, but the relay on the board isn’t closing, or the wiring from the pedestal to the operator has a bad splice. We test both ends before replacing anything.
• Some keys work, some don’t. This is almost always a worn membrane or a cracked carbon trace on the keypad ribbon. A single dead key is rarely the board; it’s the physical button surface. If a second key goes dead a month later, the membrane is failing progressively and we recommend replacing the keypad rather than swapping individual buttons.
• Intercom audio drops on one side. A visitor can hear you but you can’t hear them, or vice versa. This is typically the speaker cone, the microphone element, or a failing audio amplifier on the intercom board. • Keypad display is dim, flickering, or showing incomplete characters. The LCD zebra strip between the glass and the board loses contact as it ages. • Gate opens without a code entered. This is the dangerous one. A stuck relay or a shorted keypad wire can send an open command on its own. A gate that opens by itself defeats the point of having an access system.
